In 2003, when the concept
Chrysler SRT-8 was first shown to the public, it was introduced as having
"over 400 horsepower." On August 13, 2004, the actual SRT-8 debuted with 425
horsepower, coming from a 6.1 litre Hemi power plant.
SRT-8 is based on the
standard SRT name given, confusingly enough, to vehicles modified by the PVO
Group - that's Performance Vehicle Operations. SRT originally stood for
"Street and Racing Technology" but now stands for "Strip, Road, and Track" -
similar to the old R/T designation which seems to have been abandoned.
The SRT-8 adds a full 85
horsepower to the already-quick Chrysler 300C, with nearly another
half-litre of displacement in the performance-geared engine.
